Title: Rose's Burden, 1944

Rosie's Burden, 1944, is the second in the Yesteryears Series. This painting began by a random application of two colors on the canvas, and then "seeing" what pattern emerged. My inspiration was Rosie the Riveter, from the WWII posters. This is my the 'behind the scenes' version of what she might have looked like as she endured the burdens of unaccustomed factory work and deprivation and caring for the children while worrying about her absent husband. I honor all the women who managed to do this and survive, and part of honoring it, to me, is to tear away the poster's propaganda veneer and simply honor that they may have done it dog-tired and sad, but they persevered! Kudos to a whole generation of unsung heroines!
