Title: Devotions at Daybreak (Right)

These 3 paintings (the series: left, center, right) were done to be displayed together. I often work at my computer in the early morning hours, and love to watch the slow process of daybreak through my window. This spring (2009) the bare branches spoke to me as they reached silently for the softly lightening sky. The birds had not yet returned and there were no other voices. It was so still, without even a breeze to ripple the tiniest of twigs. But the trees seemed to awaken with the unfolding of light, and to share secrets the rest of us cannot comprehend. Subtle winds began to cause their limbs to sway. Such things always remind me of Biblical passages about the whole creation worshipping God. I had this desire to portray a sort of living interaction among them, incorporated in a graphic design. The starkness of the black silhouettes against lavender-gray sky fascinated me and made me wish I could speak their language and join in their worship. I hope I have brought them to life for you, as well.
