Jeremiah was a prophet who spoke to several kings, and he was well known among the people. When he spoke “the word of the LORD”, everyone knew he spoke with the authority of the Kings of Kings, and was His messenger. They might not have liked what he said, but they honored the words as not his, but God’s. His voice truly roared across the mid-east, and is still heard today through the written word. There’s a scripture that asks the question, “does a lion roar in the thicket when he has no prey?” Does he ‘speak’ for no reason?
What voices of warning are we listening to today? To what authorities do we take heed?
