Title: Eli and Samuel

In the Bible is the story of Samuel, whose mother had been barren.  God answered her prayers for a son, and she gave him to a priest named Eli to raise in the service of God.  Now Eli was a real slacker of a priest and displeased the Lord God.  When Samuel was just a little boy, God told him about Eli and what was going to happen to him and his family because of Eli’s sins.  It was pretty dramatic, and Eli knew that God had spoken to Samuel and demanded that the boy tell him what God had said.  So Samuel had to tell Eli all the consequences that were going to come upon him; and in this painting of a lion father and son, can’t you just hear his high-pitched little ‘roars’, and see how annoyed his father looks at the sound?  Doesn’t it look like this little cub is giving his Daddy what-for?
